charity under its old name of Intermediate Technology.
And what
about Donkeys ?
In 2008 we
bought a Donkey and Plough for a poor community from the Practical Action
Christmas Catalogue
Practical Action says;
A healthy donkey is invaluable in Sudan, helping the
poorest families to carry water from distant wells and plough the sun-baked
land. Without this hard-working member of the family, people would struggle to
grow the crops they need to survive.
In
Kajiado, a district in Kenya, where donkeys are used for agriculture, ITDGPractical Action is helping
rural women to develop means for the donkeys to carry water and firewood and
help to reduce the 3 to 5 hours daily drudgery spent on the task of collecting
these necessities.
This
saved time is now used for subsistence farming and as a consequence extra water
and vegetables are now available at the households using this method.
